TT DMA

The TT DMA is the 6th generation of DMA (DMTA) instruments that the team at Triton have developed.  No other company has as much experience in the field of DMA and that shows in the design and features of this beautiful instrument.  No other DMA currently available can match the performance, specifications and pure functionality of the TT DMA.  It is very clear that this is an instrument that has been designed by people that use DMA and have a clear understanding of what is needed in order for a DMA to be as useable and flexible as possible.  There are absolutely no compromises required, no fancy accessories needed to do what should be basic applications.  In short, the TT DMA is probably the most complete DMA system yet designed.

Specifications

Measurement Head

Full 360° head rotation, removable head - any orientation - can even be mounted in FTIR or other testing equipment -most flexible DMA system available

Frequency Range

0-1000 Hz

No lower limit other than time

Upper limit defined by sample resonance

Maximum number of frequencies

100

Displacement sensor type

LVDT

(use of an optical sensor limits strain resolution to 1nm so this option rejected)

Shaft guidance system

None required

Support springs and air bearings designed out.  Lowest compliance of any DMA system

(Spring limits lower stiffness and requires regular calibration checks)

(Air bearings require regular maintenance, are costly and cause internal heating (typically up to 40°C))

Force

Minimum 0.002, Max 20N (full range +/-15N, electronically limited)

Displacement available

Dynamic displacement +/- 0.01µm to 1000µm

Drive system

Permanent magnet and coil

No bearing requirements

No compressed air requirements

No calibration checks required – turn on and run immediately.

Combined mass of drive system & clamp

Approx 35g - low mass titanium hollow drive shaft with new universal slide and lock titanium clamp fittings – lowest inertia of any DMA available

Use of titanium and low mass results in better heating / cooling performance and is very rugged

Temperature range

Standard oven -190°C to 600°C

Optional fluids / environmental chamber -190°C to 150°C

Optional Humidity Chamber 10°C to 90°C

Cooling Rate

Ambient to -100°C in less than 5 minutes using only 1/3 liter of liquid nitrogen

Clamping

All titanium, single/dual cantilever, 3 point bend, shear sandwich, compression, tension

360° head rotation allows optimization of operation for each geometry - 3 point bending best in vertical

up orientation, cantilevered bending best in horizontal plane etc.

Variable free length adjustment, eliminating length limitations in fixed geometry systems

Time to change clamps

1 minute with no recalibration required

Modes of operation

T ramp, single F/F sweep, force constant, stepped force - all common modes available

Minimum pretension for tensile

0 or 0.0002N

Force/Tand resolution

0.0002

Strain resolution

<1nm

Sample sizes

Maximum sample size 52.5mm.  TT DMA has 18 choices from 1mm to 17.5mm with the cantilevered

bending and up to 21.5mm free length with 3 point bending.
